SouthGroup joined in at the Relay for Life fundraising event to end cancer
Kayla Perez of Horn Lake is the recipient of the Winn & Annie Ruth Brown Memorial Scholarship presented by SouthGroup Insurance. The Browns built a wonderful legacy of good works and community involvement in DeSoto County. The scholarship is presented to outstanding Horn Lake High School graduates.
A Sophomore English major at Northwest MS Community College, Kayla has a 3.8 GPA and was recently invited to join the Phi Beta Kappa Society. She plays saxophone in the marching band, concert band and jazz band, and is a math and English tutor. Kayla is employed at FedEx and is very active in her church, First Baptist Horn Lake and also volunteers with the Horn Lake High School band program. Kayla plans to be an English or math teacher. Dabreia Stamper, daughter of Darren and Theresa Stamper of Horn Lake, has graduated from University of Mississippi with a degree in Management Information Systems. "Breia" was the first recipient of the annual Winn and Annie Ruth Brown Scholarship at Horn Lake High School and continued on the scholarship throughout her college career. Among other honors, Ms. Stamper also was award the Horn Lake Alumni Association scholarship. Congratulations and Godspeed Dabreia!
On a breezy, rather chilly March morning at an unlikely location in rural Mississippi, two groups of children separated by more than 70 years in time and many, many miles in distance, merged onto an unsuspecting world stage for the purpose of the present generation giving voice to those past.
On that day, the brilliance of the murdered children of the Holocaust and the spark of the present generation were united as the Unknown Child Holocaust Memorial/Park was launched.
